Friends and Family!!! Hello!!!!!
Wow I cannot believe I have been here for almost a WEEK. It feels like yesterday that I was just sitting at home doing absolutely nothing with my life. And WOWZA. What a week it has been. I literally don't even know where to begin. I guess I should start with the food. It's not my favorite. I have heard people RAVE about the food, but honestly, I was a little let down. BUT I don't have to prepare it soooo that's pretty awesome and I need to be way more grateful for that fact hahaha.
The first day was insane. I got two seconds to say goodbye to my sister and then they took me ALL over campus to get checked in and put my bags in the room and then take me to class. I didn't even KNOW how to process everything. Holy moly. it was sure crazy folks. I met my companions in my class. No that's not a typo, I am in a trio!!!!! AND I LOVE IT!!! Trios can be hard, but I am so grateful that I got the companions that I got. There names are Sister Dunn and Sister Hammond. Sister Dunn is from Alaska and going to the Salt Lake City South Mission. Sister Hammond is from Peoria, Arizona and is going to Yakama Washington (super sick right?). I met my teachers as well, Sister Martin-Ross and Brother Cheung and THEY ARE THE BEST. I AM LEARNING SO MUCH FROM THEM. If I am being quite honest, the first day was a blur and full of orientations and workshops, but truly the coolest thing we did was get in a big group of missionaries teach people you were interested in learning the gospel! It was so rad and I felt the spirit so strong! I CAN'T WAIT TO TEACH PEOPLE OUT IN THE FIELD!!!
We get up every morning at 6:30 am and have to be in our room with the door shut at 9:45 pm and in bed by 10:30! Needless to say, QUITE different from my schedule back home. It was hard to adjust at first, but I am getting the hang of it!
On the second day, it was a lot of orientation, but something fun and cool that we got to do was meet our branch presidency who are AWESOME!! (btw all the old women here have the same haircut and style??????????? it's okay I still love them.) I got to talk with my branch president and he calmed a lot of my nerves about being out here. He said all the things I needed to hear. It's incredible how leaders can be so in tune with the spirit like that. Ugh. I love this gospel! ALSO YSA FRIENDS I RAN INTO ABBY WEBBER (I guess Hermana Webber) and it was wonderful!!! We took a picture that I am attaching to this email!
Fridays are our day of service. We just clean and make sure our assigned building looks nice. Me and Sister Hammond decided to shower after service and that was a HORRIBLE idea. We were almost late to class because of it hahahhah don't ever do that. ever. bad idea. We learned our lesson there for sure.
My district is SO CUTE YOU GUYS!!! I LOVE THEM. There is only 11 of us which is awesome and we all get along super well! So grateful for that. It definitely helps when it comes to participating for me because I feel like I can be open and myself with them! We do almost everything together which I love because it makes us more unified and I love getting to know them.
Sister Hammond is like my own little personal trainer. She pushes me so hard when we work out. I am SO FLIPPING SORE. MY BODY HURTS. I am so excited to get fit though. I love the way exercising makes me feel!!
Saturday was cool! Halfway through the morning class, we went and found a person to teach for this week!!! We met Adrienne and she is just wonderful. Our first lesson with her was yesterday and I have to say that it went really well. We decided to teach her as much as we could of the first lesson. The first lesson, which I realize a lot of you probably don't know about would be the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! We only got halfway through because we didn't want to rush anything, but she seemed really engaged and asked lots of questions. It was wonderful. I felt the spirit so strong. We invited her to pray at the end of the lesson so I am reeeeallly hoping that she does!!! I know that if she does she will feel God's love and protection and that the Holy Ghost will testify of the truthfulness of the gospel!
Sundays here are crazy, but also nice. We get to take a break from teaching and lessons and just talk about the gospel and study it for ourselves. There is no real break, but on the break me and my companions got we watched some required videos and lied down on the ground to watch them. It was nice to be off our feet and NOT IN A CHAIR. (you sit so much here it's not even funny.) We also got to watch this video called the Character of Christ. It was a talk given by Elder Bednar to the missionaries in the MTC years ago. It was honestly the most amazing talk I have EVER heard.
I wanna leave you with the messages that I have received this week from Elder Bednar, my teachers, and the spirit. This gospel is so much more than the doctrine that we teach. It is about coming unto Christ and coming closer to Him. Christ is our Savior and our Reedeemer. He loves us so much. A testimony is not enough to make it in this world. You NEED to be fully converted to Christ or the powers of Satan will take over you life and everything you know. You cannot live off of borrowed light. If you haven't come to your own conversion of the beauty of this church, I invite you, actually, I BEG of you to begin your conversion process RIGHT NOW. Read the Book of Mormon and pray with a sincere heart daily. Our Heavenly Father hears our prayers and wants to help us. All we need to do is turn to Him with a broken heart and contrite spirit. He loves you. He loves me. He knows each and everyone of us perfectly and individually. I believe that with all of my heart. I promise that as you come closer to Christ, your life will be blessed in so many ways.
I love you ALL!
Please email me and send me pictures! I can read them during the week and I will be able to respond to them on Tuesdays while I am here!
Hugs and lots of love from your missionary friend!!!
Sister Brady
